| This year, the school presented the Mrs. Chau Ho Dak Hing Memorial Scholarship to three outstanding students who have received outstanding results in the HKCE Examination 2008-09. The recipients were Winnie Yeung who received 8 As and 2 Bs, Audrey Wong who received 7 As and 2 Bs, and Hanen Tang who received 7 As and 2 Bs. Below is a sharing from two of our outstanding achievers, Audrey Wong and Hanen Tang, currently studying in Secondary 6 at MSS, on their study strategies and examination experiences from last year.

| One of my study strategies, or should I say – attitude – is that I built up solid basic concepts before I went through different drilling exercises when preparing for the HKCEE. I would read through the textbooks to the smallest details and raise questions if I found any difficulty in understanding. A thorough understanding of the principles allowed me to deal with different situations in the questions, rather than memorizing long answers which might be irrelevant. Another study strategy is a habit of writing notes. It reinforced my memory of the salient points as I went through my textbooks. Besides jotting down notes, I practised drawing different diagrams or graphs at the same time. More importantly, it drew my attention to details I missed out before, which clarified some of the misconceptions I had. Studying may be very stressful, especially when you are preparing for an exam that is as important as CE. However, hard work always pays off and all the effort will be worth it when you experience the satisfaction good results bring to you. I
am very grateful for all the help and guidance the teachers and my fellow
schoolmates have given me during the preparation of CE. I was under
great pressure at that time. Luckily, they have given me a lot of support
and encouragement, which relieved my pressure and allowed me to perform
to my best. |

Focus. Concentration. When I realized that the exam has a life-long impact I knew very well then that I should take it seriously. Relaxation is necessary, but if you are aware that you have a tendency to turn relaxation into distractions, which prevent you from having sufficient revision, then, at all costs, stop. Remember, there is plenty of time to relax – later. Indeed, good time management is a key to success. To reach my goals, I reprioritized my tasks and weeded out some less important activities. It is true that an exam is not everything in life and failing the exam is not equal to failing life. But there is no reason why you shouldn’t throw down a challenge and stretch your limits in the exam. Don’t hesitate to give your best, and you will be surprised. ‘Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.’ This is so true. I’d like to express my hearty thanks to the school, for the scholarship, of course, and for my teachers’ guidance, patience and support. It’s a blessing to have been a Marymount girl from P.1. I’m also very grateful to God because without His enablement, I could not have achieved anything, let alone receive the scholarship |
